Even headhunters have to keep ahead! On a trip to the interior of Borneo's rain forest I visited and stayed with members of the Iban tribe, former headhunters. This longhouse elder was intrigued by my laptop computer. He wanted to trade me his palang (headhunting sword) and a couple of skulls for the computer. But I already had a palang from previous visits and I figured US customs would not look too highly on my bringing home human skulls. So I had to decline his offer. Besides, when the battery on the computer ran out he would probably come looking for my skull.... Boyd Norton.
